Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher set the fastest time in Friday's rain-drenched opening practice for the Formula One Korean Grand Prix.Schumacher's best time of 2 minutes, 02.784 seconds was 0.056 seconds faster than Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel, who clinched his second straight drivers championship at last weekend's Japanese GP. Force India's Paul Di Resta was third fastest.
A steady rain fell at the 5.615-kilometer (3.489-mile) Yeongam track Friday morning but better conditions were predicted for the afternoon session. The rain threatened to completely wash out the first practice session but the water on the track dissipated in the last 30 minutes as more drivers tested the conditions.
Six drivers, including McLaren driver Jenson Button who won Sunday's Japanese GP, didn't set a time in the early session. Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso, who won the inaugural Korean GP last year, was also among the six drivers who didn't set a time.McLaren's Lewis Hamilton was seventh on the timesheets, in front of Mercedes' Nico Rosberg and Sauber's Sergio Perez, with Red Bull's Mark Webber rounding out the top ten.
